Understanding Stretch Marks & Scarring

Stretch marks and scars are common changes in the skin that can develop after growth, pregnancy, changes in body size, injury, surgery or inflammation. Their colour, depth, age and location all influence how they look and how they may respond to treatment. They are not signs that the skin is unhealthy, and complete removal cannot be guaranteed.

Some professional skin procedures may be discussed for selected textural concerns, but suitability depends on the area being treated, the type of mark, skin tone, healing history and the risk of pigment changes. Treatments used on the face cannot automatically be assumed suitable for the body, so the area and protocol need to be assessed specifically before a recommendation is made.

Keeping the skin comfortable and moisturised can support its general condition, although topical products are unlikely to erase established stretch marks or scars. Sun protection is important for exposed areas, particularly when marks are new or when a procedure may increase sensitivity. Avoid harsh home treatments that promise to remove scars or aggressively resurface the skin.

At consultation, we can discuss what is realistic for your particular concern, whether an available treatment is appropriate and when specialist advice may be needed. Any procedure should be chosen with an understanding of possible downtime, risks and the likelihood that improvement may be gradual or partial.
